Jomolhari Trek – A Stunning Himalayan Adventure in Bhutan

The journey begins with a spiritual pilgrimage to the cliffside Tiger’s Nest Monastery, attuning you to Bhutan’s sacred atmosphere before the trek commences at the historic ruins of Drugyel Dzong. For the first few days, you will follow the Pachhu River out of the Paro Valley, leaving civilization behind for the pristine alpine landscape. This initial phase culminates at the Jangothang base camp, a sacred amphitheater offering a stunning audience with the majestic Mount Jumolhari, where you will pause to acclimatize in its shadow.

Leaving the relative comfort of base camp, the trek enters its most demanding stage, ascending through high pasturelands to conquer two formidable mountain passes. The route first tests your endurance over the windswept Neyle La Pass at 4700m before climbing even higher to the staggering Yaklayla Pass at 4942m. Your reward for this immense physical effort is an unparalleled panoramic view of a court of titans, including the icy crowns of Mount Jichu Drake and the majestic Tsherim Gang.

The descent follows the Thimphu Chu river, guiding you gradually from the raw heart of the mountains back towards the warmth of civilization. The adventure concludes not merely with the end of the trail but with a seamless transition into cultural splendor. By immersing yourself in the vibrant sights of the Thimphu and Punakha valleys, you depart not just with memories of peaks and passes, but with the holistic spirit of Bhutan woven into your very being.
